Cat Gifts For Cats

What do I do with these gifts from my cat?
Well, my cat keeps bringing his toys and lying them at my feet. It’s been going on for a couple of days. I heard if your cat really loves you they bring you gifts likes mice and stuff but since he’s indoors only I’m guessing he brings toys for lack of mice lol! What am I supposed to do with them? Play with them? Put them away somewhere? I’m afraid I’ll hurt his feelings if I don’t do something when he brings them. What should I do?
Hi there,
What a great question, which many people wonder about. I gave you a star!!
Well you are to be conCATulated for a cat that adores you and considers you to be one of his “clowder” (his feline tribe) As far as the relationship between cat and their “servant” is concerned, cats often bring real mice and other “critters” to their people, often as a way of communicating to them that they are teaching them how to hunt and capture their prey. It also is a sign that he is sharing his “bounty” with you, bringing you part of his “hunting” results. At one time this behavior was only considered to be “gifting” their human, but we now know that teaching is part of their vocabulary. Perhaps cats consider us to be their feline family as most Cat Lovers think of their cats as part of theirs.
Of course you should play with them, and thank your kitty for being so kind and considerate of his “pet”… you! You can “hide” them of course, and he will do his hunting again, and return them to you to make sure you learned the valuable lesson he is giving you. You are very honored, my friend.
Here is a fascinating article for you about why cats bring home mice to their humans.. and of course, since your kitty is an indoor cat ( congratulations on that) all of this article applies to your cat’s toys and how he holds you in high esteem.

It is highly possible that this is why some cats retrieve tossed toys, dropping them at our feet.. now that I think of it.
Hope this helps,
